The venue

Everything starts and finishes at East Tanfield Station, one of the North East's best-kept secrets. The station is the centrepiece of the Tanfield Railway, the world's oldest surviving railway, set in open countryside on the edge of Stanley, County Durham.

The distances

Trail Runs
3k Family Run: a short, accessible loop around the Tanfield grounds. Open to all ages and abilities.
5k Entry Run: mixed trail surface. Enough to earn your coffee.
10k Signature Run: varied terrain, some climb, a finish that earns it.

Gravel Rides
50k Half-Day Ride: mixed surface, manageable for anyone who rides regularly.
100k Full Day Effort: a proper day out in County Durham gravel terrain.

What's included

  • Entry and a small wave start (groups of ~10, no mass starts)
  • Full route maps and GPX files sent to you before the event
  • Event t-shirt for every finisher
  • Free parking
  • Results via Strava

What to wear and bring

Trail runs: trail shoes recommended but not essential. Dress for the weather. A light layer is wise even in July. Bring water for the 10k; the 3k and 5k are short enough that most people manage without.

Gravel rides: road or gravel bike. Bring food and water for the 100k. GPX will be sent in advance; download it to your device before you leave. A basic puncture kit is recommended.

The t-shirt

Every finisher gets one. You pick the size when you enter. It'll be ready at the finish line. If you don't finish, no t-shirt. That's the deal.

Timing and results

Results are via Strava. Bring your GPS watch or phone, record your activity, and tag it. We'll compile the results from Strava entries after the event.

First time at a B*Trail event?

Good. These events are designed to be low-faff and high-quality. Small waves mean you're not lost in a crowd. The terrain is real but it's not extreme. The vibe is inclusive: whether you're running with your kid or chasing a personal effort, you're welcome here.
