What to expect

On the day.

Trail Run

Tanfield Trail Run

Tanfield is the kind of terrain trail runners actually want. Tracks and singletrack through County Durham's pit village landscape, with the kind of views you remember after your legs have stopped hurting.

A well-marked course, marshals where it counts, and a finish line with something waiting for you. Download the GPX and bring it as backup. Strava does the timing. Get it running before you go.

Start time and distance confirmed on entry. If you've not run trail before, Tanfield is a good place to start. If you have, you'll know what you're getting into.

Gravel Ride

Tanfield Gravel Ride

County Durham in July on a gravel bike. Hard to argue with. Tanfield's terrain suits everything from gravel bikes to hardtails. Wide enough to breathe, technical enough to earn it.

A marked route through proper north-east countryside. Start self-sufficient. Water stations on course. Strava on your phone or head unit. That's how we time it.

Roll in, get fed, feel smug. Gravel bikes, cyclocross and hardtail MTB all welcome. Road tyres won't cut it. E-bikes not in this category.

In every entry

What you get.

01. FINISHER T-SHIRT

Yes, a t-shirt. Not a medal. Something you'll actually wear. Every finisher, every distance, kids included.

02. STRAVA TIMING

No chip timing, no faff. Get Strava running before you set off, not halfway round. We compile the leaderboard and share it after.

03. FOOD AND DRINK

Something proper waiting at the finish line. Not a cereal bar and a bottle of water. Details on the event page.

04. MARKED COURSE

Signage and tape throughout. Marshals at the junctions where it matters. Download the GPX anyway and bring it as backup.

The location

Tanfield,
County Durham.

Tanfield sits in the heart of County Durham's old pit village belt. The landscape has a particular quality to it. Industrial roots, overgrown edges, long views across the valley that open up when you least expect them.

In July the conditions are about as good as trail running and gravel riding gets in the north east. Long light, dry-ish tracks, and enough elevation to feel like you've earned whatever's waiting at the finish.

First B*Trail event, first-rate terrain. This is the one to do.

Who we are

About B*Trail.

B*Trail is a trail running and gravel riding events company in the north east of England. Three of us: Dan, Lauren and Patrick.

Between us we've worked events, run our own, and built successful businesses on one winning formula: customer first, branding that actually looks good. This isn't a side project. We know what a well-run event looks like, and what a bad one feels like, which is the whole reason B*Trail exists.

The idea is simple: events worth actually entering. Proper terrain, proper marking, proper organisation. A finisher t-shirt instead of a medal that ends up in a drawer. Food at the finish that you actually want to eat. A start line where you don't feel like a race number.

No chip timing, no corporate sponsors, no filler. Strava on, legs moving, done.

B*Trail events are capped. That's not a gimmick. It's how you keep things good.

Good questions

FAQ.

How do I enter?

Through this page via the Shopify checkout. Find your event, pick your distance, pay. Confirmation lands in your inbox. That's you in.

Is there a t-shirt?

Yes. Every finisher, every distance. Kids too. We order to size, so make sure you pick yours at checkout. Better than a medal that ends up in a drawer.

How does timing work?

Via Strava. Get the app running before you set off, not halfway round. We compile the leaderboard once everyone's across the line and share results on the day.

Can I sign up on the day?

Sometimes, but don't count on it. We order kit in advance, so late entries aren't always possible. 100 spots total. If it's gone, it's gone.

Are dogs allowed?

Check the event page. Where dogs are welcome they need to be on a lead and under control. We'll confirm Tanfield-specific details ahead of race day.

What if I need to cancel?

Entries are non-refundable. You can transfer to a future B*Trail event or to another person up to 14 days before the event. There's a £5 admin fee either way. Email us to arrange it.
