The parkland, estate tracks and wooded edges around Raby Castle make for proper trail running, completely transformed once the sun drops. Head torches on, beams cutting through the trees and the deer park, the medieval castle floodlit against the night.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch3\u003eChoose Your Distance\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\u003ch4\u003eShort Route: approx. 5 km\u003c\/h4\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eA single loop starting and finishing at the castle, following the parkland carriageways and a wooded section beyond the walls before climbing back. Firm underfoot for the most part with a few rougher sections, picked out by your head torch. Manageable for a runner who trains regularly. Trail shoes are required; road shoes are not suitable.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch4\u003eLong Route: approx. 10 km\u003c\/h4\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe long route completes the short loop before continuing out across the wider estate and back through a second wooded valley. The additional section adds open track running, a longer sustained climb and more time in the dark. Runners should be comfortable with variable underfoot conditions and navigating by head torch. Mandatory kit applies to both routes after dark.
